Hot Cold Beer Tips:

Draft beer (Cerveza de barril) is somewhat rare but it’s available, and (just like a fine wine) ordered by colour: light (clara) or dark (oscura)

Some places offer a bunch of beers in an ice bucket (una cubeta), a real time-saver

Have a Chelada or Michelada. Beer with stuff in it. There are a few variations on this depending on place and language barriers. Variations include (by probably not limited to) lime juice and salt, tomato juice, lime juice, Worcestershire, soy and hot sauces, or a version with Clamato.

Walking around (e.g. between bars) with a beer seems perfectly acceptable some places (I’m looking at you Mazatlan) but not other cities (best double-check with a local)

Hey, why not just add a shot of tequila (Go for it! You’re vacationing/retired/working remotely)

Beer in Mexico

As anyone who has been to Mexico knows, beer is everywhere - cantinas, restaurants, OXXOs, swim-up bars - everywhere. But the beer (or cerveza, as they are lovingly referred to by the locals) of Mexico are a pretty week affair, with alcohol content ranging from about 3.0 to 4.5% (oh, watch out there, big boy). Inexplicably, some of these brands even come in a light version. I feel the lightness of the beer is a contributing factor in tequila’s popularity in Mexico.
